My favourite lip products (NYX)

I swear, that literally this last year or so NYX Professional Makeup have exploded immensely with their makeup, even more so with their lip products.

I have never really been a fan of lip products, as the shape of my mouth isn’t really what I call ‘attractive’, so have always steered clear of anything dramatic or bright.

Then I saw these…

l-r NYX Butter Gloss in Madeleine, Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome and Abu Dhabi

They both go on really well, the colour pigment of the lip cream is amazing, and honestly lasts a fair few hours wear.

I picked mine up from my local Boots stores, but they sell online too and do not cost a lot, these were £5.50 and £6.00 each.

Have a great evening

As Frank Sinatra sang so famously… “That’s Life”

I do wonder sometimes, at what point in time will I ever feel complete or at least happy. It doesn’t seem complicated, aren’t we all entitled to be happy? But I for one thought that being happy came at a cost. To who’s expense exactly?

People say, “life is what you make it”, what’s that supposed to mean? I never once invisioned my life to be like it is right now.

Ok, I didn’t do particularly well at school with my education, but I did go on to do college and I did night school for 2 years, but where did it get me?

Im laying in bed again procrastinating about my life now as a 29 (going on 30), mum of 3, and I think. Is THIS it? Is this what my life has become?

I do think I’m jealous of how other people live their lives, the amount of friends they have, their social status etc, I always think to myself, why dont I have that too…

There isn’t really an answer to that question, as I guess other people may be thinking the exact same thing as me.

I have a loving, trusting, caring partner who supports and understands me and three handsome sons, and I ‘probably’ couldn’t ask for more than that.

I guess ‘that’s life’ really, isn’t it?

In a room full of people. No one can hear you scream.

Demons.

Demons of depression is like being in a pool full of water and drowning even though you know how to swim. No one understands.

Everyone says “you look to nice today, with your hair and makeup on” blah blah blah, and all your want to do is scream at them and tell them that your blind at the fact that all I want to do is rip your head off and scream at you.

Ignorance ISN’T bliss.

This isn’t a phase…

First Impressions / Baby ‘haul’

So I haven’t done a blog in a week, due to many reasons, of which I will not bore you about…

But there was infact time to do some spontaneous online shopping!

I will just dive straight in.. here goes!

Since receiving them on Monday just gone, I have had the time to test the all out. Some more frequently than others.

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover / Infallible 24hr Matte / Mattifying Base

I have long been an avid fan of L’Oréal makeup products ever since the ‘original’ True Match foundation came out many years ago.. and I have to say their foundations in general do not falter.

At the moment, since giving birth to my baby not long ago, my skin has become more shiner, so the need for a makeup that will stay put all day is ever needed.

I find that the 24hr Matte is true to my fair skin tone ( I am PALE), it does the trick, by not moving about, staying matte, and not looking at all ‘cakey’.

Turn to the NEW Total Cover and this is whole different ball game… O boy.

This claims to cover all kinds of skin issues, be it, blemishes, redness and tattoo’s without the heavy feeling.

If I am honest, it is okay, yes I am currently on day 3 of trying this foundation, and again using my blender or sponge to apply it. Good colour match too, so no tide lines around the jaw area.

It also certainly looks to stay put significantly longer than that of the 24hr Matte.

This is my 2nd attempt (I accidently threw the first one out) and trying the Mattifying Base out. You get a decent sized tube for your buck so a little goes a long way.

For years I have been faithful to the Maybelline Baby Skin Primer, which I love, so again, giving this one for a spin has been interesting. It is easy and simple to apply, over the bridge of my nose and forehead, it seems to keep my pores hidden away as if by magic, so for me this wins hands down!

Maybelline The Eraser Eye Concealer

For months and months now, this concealer has been stalking my Instagram, Blogger and YouTube feed, and it came to the point, where I knew I had to try this.

Like many others, the one thing that bothered me, and potentially put me off, was the sponge applicator of which the concealer comes through at the top.

I cannot be sure if I am so excited by this, as I find the colour is a bit ‘off’ for me. Considering this is in the shade Light, it is much darker than my current favourite ( Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer).

Plus the price for the amount your getting is much more dearer, compared to the Collection brand.

I will have to see how this one pans out for me over the next few weeks…

Batiste Dry Shampoo (Limited Edition ‘Naughty’)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Batiste.

Since falling pregnant last year and then having my son, my hair has become ever more limp, and voluminous, which for me, isn’t a great look. Especially when you have  washed it within 2-3 hours, and then its looking gross again. Boo.

I do tend to find though, that it is incredibly chalky and does leave your hair with a grey tinge… So a little goes a long way… But never the less, it does what it says on the can. Cannot falter!

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Shampoo

So like I’ve mentioned above, my hair is limp, lifeless and not very voluminous. Plus whilst pregnant, I started to loose clumps of hair, which is petrifying.

This is quite pricey for the amount you get, but you do not need very much and the instructions recommend you pre wash your hair first, so its super wet, which makes this easier to lather.

Only time will tell if this is any good for me and my hair.

NYX Flawless Finish Blending Sponge

I have a few of these infamous sponges, so when I saw that NYX had brought one out too, I had to try it out.

Quite a small sponge compared to the other ones out there, but still good.

Shaped like a tear- drop with a round bottom, and on one side its a flat edge.

So far it does what its meant to do.

L’Oréal Le Blush in 120 Sandalwood Pink

Another blush to add to my collection. This one is also one of my favourites. I am not a fan of shimmery blushes, so these from L’Oréal always seem to tick the boxes.

Subtle shades of pink and muted browns complete the range, and comes complete with a compact mirror and mini brush- perfect if your on the go!

RECIPE: Millionaire Shortbread

So after a while of pushing this back, I finally decided to make these Millionaire Shortbreads.

img_0781

What you will need:

A traybake style tin, like a brownie tin

Greaseproof paper

  • 185g unsalted butter (shortbread)
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 250g plain flour
  • 185g unsalted butter (caramel)
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup
  • 300g sweetened condensed milk
  • 150g milk chocolate ( I used Green & Blacks)

img_0780

Method:

Line your tin with the greaseproof paper and preheat your oven to 180c

Put your butter, sugar and flour either in a bowl and mix or into a mixer/ food processor and beat until you have dough. It will take longer by hand!

Turn out into your tin and press in and then bake for 25 minutes until just golden.

Whilst this is happening you can start on your caramel.

Add your sugar, butter and golden syrup into a pan and leave to melt, once this is done and the sugar has dissolved turn up the heat and boil the mixture. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL THIS WILL BE HOT!!

Once the shortbread has cooked, remove from oven, and the your can add your caramel.

Leave to completely set for about an hour

Melt your chocolate and then again add on top of the caramel- again leave to set completely. You could even chill it to speed the process!

Then slice as you wish and enjoy!

BUDGET/ BLOWOUT: Liz Earle vs. Nspa

I thought I would do one of these reviews, a comparison you could say.

Short, and to the point!

Here goes…

IMG_0720.JPG

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

POSITIVES

  1. It is one of the most recognised products out there at the moment
  2. Decent sized product. Mine is 150ml
  3. Smells clean and fresh. No off putting smell
  4. Pump is easy to use, does not leak either
  5. Widely available
  6. High reviews
  7. Takes make up and grime off incredibly easily, and your skin does feel clean
  8. Does not leave my skin shiny afterwards nor red and and inflamed.

NEGATIVES

  1. Price. The 100ml starts at around £15.50 rising to £26 for a 200ml.
  2. The product states to use the pump twice over each time morning and night. You go through this quite quickly I have found. No biggie.

IMG_0723.JPG

Nspa Hot Cloth Polish

POSTIVES

  1. The price. Pretty amazing – this is £4.50!
  2. Decent amount as well, mine is 150ml
  3. Found the product takes off makeup and grime very well, could not fault

NEGATIVES

  1. Smell. Not a bad smell, just not really a pleasant smell, bit off.
  2. Pump, is pretty rubbish, takes a lot of effort to get the product out

IMG_0722.JPG

MY VERDICT

So after using both items over 2 months, ( I did have to purchase another bottle of each), I have to say that to find one that is ultimately better than the other hard.

Both claim to cleanse the skin, lightly exfoliate and purify your skin, which I do believe they do. They contain pretty much similar ingredients and both are supplied with a muslin cloth.

I give Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish 9/10

and

I give Nspa Hot Cloth Polish 7/10

I would defiantly recommend ladies that you go out and try the Nspa one for yourselves and see!

Cannot fault my holy grail Cleanse and Polish.
